His Birth And Pre- Existence

His Sinless Life

His Teachings

His Miracles

The Bible is a historic book that records events from the creation Of the universe to happenings at the end of the ages.

Genesis, the first book of the Bible, starts with the statement “In The beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” God is Eternal, Omnipotent (all powerful), Omnipresent (present in all places at all Times) and Omniscient (knows all things). He created everything by The Word of His mouth.

We further read how God created all that we see around us. He Created the vegetation, the plants, the fish, the cattle, the beasts, the Birds in the sky and all that is on the earth. The book of Genesis Gives us an account of this creation. God as the Master Creator made Provisions for the sustenance of mankind before He created man. Finally He created man and woman in His own image and placed Them in a garden called Eden. He blessed them and commanded them To be fruitful and multiply. He asked them to rule over all His creation And cultivate and keep the garden.

They were free to eat any fruit in the garden but were forbidden To eat from “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” They were Warned of the consequence of eating from this tree. They were toldthat the day they ate from the tree they would die. Eve was tempted and deceived by Satan, the fallen angel who appeared in the form of a serpent. She ate the fruit and also shared it with her husband Adam.

As a result of this disobedience, which the Bible calls “sin,” death came. Death in the form of separation from God including physical death spread to all mankind. Satan, the enemy of God, temporarily succeeded in his plan to destroy God’s beautiful creation. Sin brought these terrible consequences but God promised a Savior.

God tells the serpent in Genesis 3:15 “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise Him on the heel.” Messiah (the Anointed One) will be born of the woman and He will one day crush the head of the serpent. In other words, He will destroy Satan and all he achieved through the fall of man.

The Bible says “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16). The Bible reveals that this God eternally exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus, the Son of God, was born 2000 years ago in the land of Israel.

Many people have attempted to examine the uniqueness of Jesus Christ and countless books have been written on His life. The Bible makes many claims about Jesus and presents evidence for His life, death, and resurrection. We can’t ignore these things or take them lightly. A correct understanding of who Jesus Christ is and what He does changes our very destiny.

The objective of this study is to enable you to search the Holy Scriptures personally and come to a conclusion.

We need to discover truth by ourselves and the truth will set us free.

Who is Jesus Christ 1 Summary

Let’s Summarise

In this chapter we saw that Jesus is the Son of God and is called “Immanuel” (“God with us”). We saw that the future government will be on Jesus’shoulders. His name “will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of peace.” There will be no end to the increase of Jesus’ government and peace. His kingdom will be just and righteous. He will rule the earth forever and ever. We also saw that in the beginning the Word that became flesh was with God and all things came into being through Him. “All things” refers to created subjects. He is glorious and full of grace and truth.

Jesus is the image of the invisible God and preeminent in all of God’s creation. All things in heaven and earth, visible and invisible are created through Jesus and for Jesus. He is before all things and in Him all things in the universe hold together. Jesus laid the foundations of the heavens and the earth. The millions of stars and galaxies in the universe are the work of His hands and one day He will roll them up. We will be reading more of this especially in the last chapter titled His Second Coming.

Chapter 2 Summary

Let’s Summarise

Sin by definition is violating God’s commandments. Death (spiritual and physical) came into the world through sin to everyone born. The Bible also says that all have sinned and there is none righteous. So to pull us out of this great pit of sin and death we needed help. Someone from outside the pit had to help. This someone had to be without sin.

Jesus the Holy Son of God led a sinless life. He was different from all of us. The Bible says He committed no sin and no deceit was found in His mouth. Pilate, the Roman governor during the trial of Jesus, said he found no guilt in Jesus. Jesus said He is the way, the truth and the life and no one can approach God apart from Him. We are redeemed (bought with a price) with the precious blood of Jesus. We will see this further in our study.

Jesus lived a sinless life, so He is able to draw the sinner out of the pit of sin.

Chapter 3 Summary

Let’s Summarise

We see that Jesus taught with great authority. And He practiced what He preached. In His model prayer He called God “Father.” We can approach God as our Father. What a privilege! God is not an impersonal force but a person. He is our Father. Jesus said that God’s purpose for us is to glorify His name in all that we do. Jesus taught us that we need to desire God’s kingdom on earth – a place where God rules with righteousness and justice. God should be our foremost priority.

Jesus defined true blessedness not as the world defines it. He taught us to love and pray for our enemies, live morally pure lives but not trust in our righteous deeds. He taught that God loves and justifies the repentant sinner, not the self-righteous hypocrite.

He taught that His sheep hear His voice and follow Him and He gives them eternal life. They will not perish and none can snatch them from His and His Father’s hand. He taught that He and His Father are one, Co-equal and Co-eternal.

Chapter 4 Summary

Let’s Summarise

In his Gospel, John says “Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name” (John 20:30, 31).

So far in our study we have seen Jesus’ birth, pre-existence, life, and teachings. In all these He proved Himself to be unique compared to any other human being who has ever lived on the earth. He claimed and proved to be God. In this chapter we examined His miracles and saw that Jesus had power over all kinds of sickness, demons, nature and even death itself. He had the power to create things out of nothing. His disciples exercised a great deal of Jesus’ power in His name after He rose from the dead and ascended to God the Father in heaven. The Bible says Jesus is “the same yesterday and today and forever”(Hebrews:13:8)

The purpose of all these miracles is to generate faith in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God and Saviour of the world. When we believe in Him we receive the eternal life He offers. The following lessons are about how Jesus accomplished this through His Death, Resurrection and Ascension. Jesus said you will know the truth, and the truth will set make you free (John 8:32).

Chapter 5 Summary

Let’s Summarise

The Old Testament says “the life of the flesh is in the blood” (Leviticus 17:11) and the New Testament confirms that “without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” (Hebrews 9:22). This means we would have died in our sins. Shedding blood of an innocent person was the only just punishment for our sins and so God prepared a substitute – a Lamb. John the Baptist, the forerunner of Christ, calls Jesus “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29).

Now that you’ve gone through this lesson do you think what John the Baptist said about Jesus was true? Do you see how Jesus became the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world?

Was it surprising to see God prepare a way for the most valuable part of His creation (man & woman created in His own image) to be redeemed (bought with a price) in such a way?

The Bible says God is Love (1 John 4:8,16). Do you see the love of God displayed in this unique sacrifice?

Chapter 6 Summary

Let’s Summarise

The book of Psalms, written a thousand years before Jesus the Messiah came on earth, predicts Jesus’ bodily resurrection: For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay (Psalm 16:10). Jesus’ body did not undergo decay. He rose from the dead.

Paul, an apostle of Christ, in one of his letters giving the reason for his faith, wrote that if Christ has not been raised from the dead our faith is in vain. In that case believers in Christ would be the most pitied among all men. But Christ did truly rise from the grave. He appeared to many people after His resurrection as you noticed in the Bible passages. One of the proofs of His resurrection is the empty tomb.

The resurrection of Jesus proved that all He said about Himself was true. The disciples were willing to die for their Lord because they had seen the resurrected Christ.

Chapter 7 Summary

Let’s Summarise

The Bible says “it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). Jesus said that the Father has given all judgment to the Son. Jesus is coming very soon to judge the living and the dead.

Are you ready?
The Bible exhorts us to prepare to meet our God who is a righteous and holy Judge.

Are you prepared?
As we sum up this lesson we would like you to meditate on the two verses that follow.
“And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life”
(1 John 5:11-12).
